The supermassive black hole suspected to lie at the center of the Milky Way makes up at about 4.3 parts per million of the Milky Way’s mass. By the time they reach you, those blocks are traveling at a large fraction of the speed of light, and will therefore turn into horrifying thermonuclear bombs if you try to catch them.īut, assuming its accretion disk isn’t too big and angry, a hole this size could support a pretty pleasant galaxy. Let’s say your fuel depot is orbiting a light-year from the hole’s center, and they’re dropping you rocket fuel in the form of frozen blocks of hydrogen and oxygen. Of course, if you’re hovering that close to a trillion-solar-mass black hole, you’re still going to die horribly. They’re measured in quadrillionths of a meter per second per meter. The tides are no problem, even right up against the horizon. You could hover just outside the event horizon by accelerating upwards at 1.5 gees, which a healthy human could probably tolerate indefinitely, and which is very much achievable with ordinary rocket engines. When it comes to gravity and tides, ultra-massive black holes like these are gentle giants. Atoms orbiting at the innermost stable orbit (the photon sphere) are moving very close to the speed of light, and therefore, to them, the ambient starlight and cosmic microwave background ahead of them is blue-shifted and aberrated into a horrifying violet death-laser, while the universe behind is red-shifted into an icy-cold nothingness.īut, as we saw last time, once you get outside a large hole’s accretion disk, things settle down a lot. Spin or no spin, it’s gonna be a rough ride anywhere near the hole. I’m going to assume there’s not enough angular momentum in the galaxy to spin a hole up that much. Some rough calculations suggest that, if it were rotating at half the maximum speed, the rotational kinetic energy alone would have several billion times the mass of the sun. But I’m going to make a leap here and say that our galaxy-mass black hole isn’t likely to be spinning very fast. As I said last time, you can orbit closer to a spinning hole. That is, of course, if the hole isn’t spinning. No object closer than half a light-year would actually be able to orbit the hole: it would either have to fall into the hole or fly off to infinity. We’re talking “feral children eating the corpse of a murder victim while two garbagemen fight to the death with hatchets over who gets to empty the cans on this street” kind of rough. The immediate neighborhood around a black hole like this would be rough. Proxima Centauri, around 4.2 light-years from Earth, is circled in white. That is, the galaxy-mass black hole’s event horizon alone would extend beyond the heliopause, and would therefore reach right into interstellar space. No such luck: the hole has a Schwarzschild radius of 0.312 light-years, which reaches well into the Oort cloud. When I started tinkering with the simulation, I was kinda hoping there’d be one or two dwarf planets outside the event horizon, so their orbits could at least offer a sense of scale. The thing circled in orange is the black hole. Here, though, is how big our trillion-sun black hole would be, if we replaced the sun with it: Even the largest don’t get much bigger than a really large star. As I said last time, as far as astronomical objects go, black holes are a fairly comfortable size. In other words, almost a hundred times smaller than our hypothetical hole. The largest black hole candidate is the black hole at the center of the quasar S5 0014+813, estimated at 40 billion solar masses. Not even to astrophysicists, for whom all sorts of weird shit is ordinary. The result wouldn’t be an ordinary black hole. Imagine taking all the mass in the Milky Way (estimated to be around a trillion solar masses) and collapsing it into a black hole. Most Mac apps are self-contained, and the trash-to-delete option works on all versions of Mac OS X and later. Question 1: How can I uninstall Instaradio 7.5 from my Mac? So, when you decide to uninstall Instaradio 7.5 on Mac, you will need to tackle the following two questions. The trash-to-delete method may leave some junk files behind, resulting in incomplete uninstall. That means, if you simply trash the app and think the removal is done, you’re wrong. Additionally, some apps may create supporting files, caches, login files scattering around the system directory. General knowledge: Once installed, an app is typically stored in the /Applications directory, and the user preferences for how the app is configured are stored in ~/Library/Preferences directory. If you have no clue how to do it right, or have difficulty in getting rid of Instaradio 7.5, the removal solutions provided in the post could be helpful. Perfect Solutions to Uninstall Instaradio 7.5 for Mac The settlers of catan board5/10/2023 Additionally, whenever a 7 is rolled, players with more than seven resource cards in their hands have to discard half of them (rounded up).Ĭollecting Resources: “Resource cards” display pictures of the coveted resources, which provide the building blocks for everything a player wants to do. It’s placed or moved on the board when the next player rolls 7s or when a “knight” development card (purchased by that player), is played. The robber brings death to the tile it sits on, which means no resources can be collected there until the robber moves. The Robber: When a sum of 7 is rolled, that player gets to place the “Robber Pawn” on any tile. You’ll definitely want to place your settlements near tiles with higher-probability numbers in order to win. The least likely numbers (2 and 12) just have one dot. Five dots and a red-colored number means that it’s one of the most likely numbers to be rolled (both 8 and 6 have this designation). The game also marks the number tokens with the probability that they’ll be rolled using one to five small dots. So, for example, if you placed two cities next to a mountain tile with a 5 on it, you’ll get four ore cards every time a 5 is rolled. Settlements earn one resource card each and cities earn two. If your settlement is adjacent to that tile, then you earn the resource that it represents. Rolling: Each turn begins with a roll of the two dice whose sum will correspond to the number token on a hexagonal tile. In fact, my teenage son Charlie says that after winning, it’s his favorite part of the game.Ĭatan tends to be competitive until the last point is won (or stolen, depending on your perspective). Overall, we found the setup process easy and enjoyable-similar to putting together a simple puzzle with multiple moving pieces. When my family plays, we try to make the tile selection process as “fair” as possible, evenly distributing the resources as well as the number tokens. Choose well, and you’ll reap the rewards with each roll of the dice choose poorly (or unluckily) and you’ll quickly be cursing those choices. For example, if you choose a spot surrounded only by hills (which gives you brick), then you won’t be able to get the resources necessary to advance your gameplay later on. You need to strategically place your settlements in spots near a variety of resources on the board. Once the last player places his or her first settlement, that player gets to then place his or her second road and settlement, followed by the remaining players in reverse order. This creates a unique terrain that looks like a map for each game. The strategy and tactics components come into play during setup: Each player takes turns placing two settlements (little houses) and two roads settlements may be placed anywhere on the board as long as there is no other settlement within one road segment. We often play two games back to back, usually at my insistence, so I can have another (usually fleeting) chance to best my kids. It takes about five minutes to set up the board for each game and then around an hour for each match. The Spruce / Sarah Vanbuskirk Setup: Fun to switch up The Spruce Home Improvement Review Board. Unwalkable meaning5/10/2023 “The way that we’re talking about it a lot in Seattle seems to be about this faceless army gathering its troops at the walls of the city. A tongue in cheek NIMBY petition to close Colorado to newcomers gained media attention in May. Murray faced opposition from people who would rather maintain the sprawling status quo than embark on a clear path to solving Seattle’s housing shortage. The plan opens the door for 50,000 new housing units, 20,000 of which would be priced below market rate. Sightline supports Seattle Mayor Ed Murray’s plan to allow the development of compact housing, especially near transit, where previously only single-family homes were allowed. “Growth feels big and scary, and leaves people feeling defensive about their own self interests and about their turf and what they have on the chopping block, rather than sparking a civic dialogue about how the community can benefit,” Fahey said. The idea that development is inherently bad, or that “our city” can only be a collection of single-family homes, is a common reaction to growth, says Anna Fahey of Sightline Institute, a Seattle think tank that researches urban housing policy. (As one YIMBY presenter said, quoting Donald Shoup, “Parking requirements are a fertility drug for cars.”) Even a small, three-story apartment building met with intense opposition from residents of Crestmoor Park and a scolding in the Denver Post (headline: “ It’s time to take our city back, Denver“). Current residents fear losing the ability to store their private vehicles on a public street, right in front of their homes, which they see as a right. Some residents of Curtis Park, for example, oppose new apartments because the developer isn’t building any parking. It also causes more traffic, as people living farther out have little choice but to drive into the city, where the jobs are. People’s transportation costs rise as they move away from the city center in search of affordable rents. Not only is this pattern a disaster for housing, it’s terrible for streets and transportation. The shortage of housing propels rents and home prices upward, forcing people to live in the less expensive sprawl outside the city, further away from walkable, bikeable, and transit-rich neighborhoods. Like the Bay Area, Denver’s population is growing fast - much faster than the creation of new places to live. In the face of the Bay Area’s severe housing crisis, I was always shocked when people were against building new housing.” “It was in response to a 300-unit project in that neighborhood. “As everybody knows, that means don’t grow it,” Trauss said. Trauss began organizing pro-development renters in 2013 after seeing a sign in a San Francisco neighborhood that read, “Grow Potrero responsibly.” “I really want everyone to come away from this very motivated and with the understanding of how accessible local politics is,” said keynote speaker Sonja Trauss, who founded the San Francisco Bay Area Renters Association (SFBARF). About 150 people convened to share ideas and political strategies to promote housing policies that will allow everyone who wants to live in cities to live in them. Building off that momentum, Better Boulder hosted the first annual YIMBY conference just up U.S. YIMBYism is gaining steam - especially in Colorado, thanks in part to the defeat of a Boulder ballot measure that would have dramatically curtailed development. The result is unaffordable neighborhoods for everyone.Įnter the “yes in my backyard” movement. They don’t want “their” view altered by new development, or someone else occupying “their” free on-street parking spaces. But NIMBY pressure makes this type of growth politically difficult. The classic NIMBY stance says new people moving to the city are fine, they just don’t want people moving to “their” street. With population growth outpacing the growth of housing, living in neighborhoods with convenient access to jobs, schools, or even a grocery store becomes less attainable for more people.Ī city like Denver, where people are migrating every day, needs more walkable development in its neighborhoods if it’s going to stay affordable. They’ve caved to the not-in-my-backyard contingent, blocking compact development and foisting expensive mandates like parking requirements on new buildings. Housing in America’s fast-growing cities has become increasingly unaffordable because elected officials let it get that way. A NIMBY sign in West Highland decrying compact development. Minechem polytool upgrade5/10/2023 This can become a tool to set people on fire, let them float away and I seem to remember reading something about mining ores with it as well. What kind of tool is it, you ask? Well it depends! What kind of upgrades did you give it? Put a stack of elements in the Polytool to "upgrade" it, more elements more effect! Hold shift on an element to see what (if anything) it does on the polytool. Another item I have yet to try out myself. What happens if we fuse Aluminium with Aluminium? We add 13 and 13 and get 26, what is element 26? Why it's our good friend Iron! To make smaller elements you need the fission reactor, however I have yet to make one so I'm unsure on how it works exactly. Carbon has an atomic number 6 and Nitrogen is 7, so if we fuse these we get element 13, Aluminium. You grab 2 elements, for example Carbon and Nitrogen, and you put them in the Fusion Reactor, this adds the atomic number of the elements together to form a new element. Now, you probably think that creating all those elements and molecules is great and all, but you might have a bit of difficulty finding the elements you need to make the stuff you want. I know because I got killed by looking in the wrong chest more times than I would like to admit) The first person to look in the chest after the Einsteinium (or whatever radioactive element you put in) decayed will be killed (1 item decaying doesn't do too much damage, 1 double chest full of the stuff is quite deadly. So, you can leave a chest full of Einsteinium (easily gotten by decomposing Soul Sand) at your "friends" base as a gift. Radioactive elements will decay after a certain amount of time and when they do, they cause damage, but it only seems to update when actually looked at (quantum physics much?). Taking cocaine (gotten by decomposing Nether Warts) and running through the woods at night is quite a trippy experience, not that I would know anything about cocaine or anything.Īlso, in multiplayer you can leave very deadly suprises for your (fri)enemies. A lot of real-life molecules have been implemented and certain effects have been copied. Take some asperin or penicillin with you, in case one of the molecules gives you a severe headache or worse. But if you have a spare moment in your busy MC life, sitting back and trying some molecules can be quite fun. For example, do not drink something like Cyanide, that's bad for you. Of course, some of these molecules are dangarous. Others give you Speed bonus, Regeneration, Nausia, Wither, you name it. Some molecules just give you a bit of food + saturation, like H2O. They are quite similar to potions except that you will need to go and try out what they do since there doesn't seem to be a complete list of what different molecules can do (the wiki at least lists some of them). There are also some very fun effects with molecules. Powering the machines seemed to work fine with BuildCraft Kinetic Pipes and Galacticraft aluminium wire. Wooden transport pipes from BuildCraft work as well. From there you can go crazy with your automation. (Assuming this is enabled in the config, by default, some items are blacklisted for synthesizing or decomposing)Īutomation! Using a hopper above and below the decomposer works like you'd expect, you dump your junk above and collect the goods below. I guess this needs a mention as well, you can convert 1.5 stacks of coal into 1 diamond, requiring 1x decomposing and 2x synthesizing. It also gives the idea of "gotta collect them all" for me, but that might just be the compulsive hoarder in me talking. These are not necesary, but just a convience. To easily remember what makes what, you have a microscope and a chemist journal which let you discover what stuff is made out off. I didn't do the math but I estimate you'd need 1 stack of Soul Sand for 16 Lead (which gives you 1 lead ignot assuming you have a mod that adds Lead ignots), I assume stone > iron has similar conversion rates. Usually, the amount of stuff you put in is way, way more than you get out. If you need Lead I advice you decompose Soul Sand and for Tungsten you need to decompose Netherrack (you need these elements for the higher tier multi-block structures) Do you have chests and chests full of stone but you really need some iron? Decompose that shit and you'll get some iron as a by-product of it. ) (Note: you can't use it to get saplings added by other mods, at least not those that I tried)Ĭhange useless junk to valuable junk. Want a jungle tree but only have oak? Decompose your oak and create jungle sapplings (or planks or slabs or. Decompose random vanilla sapplings, slabs, planks, whatever and create a new one. Let's start with the small, fun things that just make your digital life better. Now, I'm no pro at this mod just yet, but I've used it enough to give a quick overview of it. I noticed there is some severe lack of correct up-to-date information on the mod MineChem. |
